Before & After

I believe the essence of Feng Shui contains information that can transform our lives for the better. My approach, which I have termed Contemporary Feng Shui, focuses on the essential truths in the ancient teachings, stripping it of cultural details irrelevant to people living in the 21st Century. Your home does not need to have Chinese symbols to have good Feng Shui - while the theories were expressed in China, the concepts are universally true for life on this planet, and are most powerfully applied within a frame of reference that has meaning to the person using the space.

For many people, Feng Shui still seems like nonsense. But the practical considerations are quite clear. If you sleep better, it will affect how you are in the world the following day. Therefore, anything that makes your sleep more restful will improve all of the moments in your waking reality.

Sleeping with your bed under a window can lead to feeling overwhelmed and tired. The client of mine whose bedroom is pictured above almost never stayed in bed longer than he needed to to get a cursory sleep. In five minutes, we moved his bedroom around so that the headboard of his bed was along a solid inside wall. We took his large lamps and used those to anchor each side of the bed so he would feel more secure. The changes were instantaneous. That night, he had the best night's sleep that he had had in years, and he found himself not only sleeping better, but also enjoying time in bed reading. With the other changes we made in his space, fantastic new opportunities came his way.

As Darryl Reanney states in his superlative book "Music Of The Mind", if you change just one factor in an equation, the entire equation has changed. This summarizes the essence of Feng Shui perfectly. If you change one thing in your space, your personal energy has changed, and that will have repercussions that ripple out into the world around you.
