Ringing in the New Year

New Years celebrations bring auspicious beginnings, though realistically we can start things afresh any day. With the Gregorian New Year a month behind us and the Chinese New Year a week away, I thought this would be a good time to review a few concepts that can be put into practice to inspire fresh perspectives for the year to come. New Years give us a time to re-evaluate – what’s working, and what isn’t?

Especially in the post-holiday daze that follows frenzied activities and the acquisition of material goods, it can be valuable to reassess our physical surroundings and possessions. Having acquired new objects means that you need space to put them, and so this is an ideal time to release items that you may no longer need or value as highly. Giving them to a friend who would benefit or to a charity that would help someone less fortunate is a wonderful way to allow your past-time items to become another's treasures while giving special focus to your favourites.

Thematically, consider what areas of your life you wish to improve. If it’s Relationship, consider your bedroom – how can you make it more sensual and romantic? (More on that in an upcoming Valentine’s Day-themed post!) If it’s Career, how can you inspire yourself to deepen your being to open to a more profound expression of self? What images and objects will inspire you along that path? If it’s Creativity, what is a visual motivator that you can place in your space to turn on that creative tap?

Using the ancient Feng Shui Bagua map, you can determine which area of a room is best to accent with a particular object to best inspire your brave new steps. Divide the room into nine areas according to the chart, with Career/Life Path in the center of the wall that features the entrance (Fame/Reputation will be in the center of the wall opposite the door). Choose one object that speaks to you in the area of your life you wish to improve and place it in an appropriate area to stimulate an inner shift that will move you towards your goal.

As the year changes, and because you change constantly, bringing some changes in your home space to reflect these shifts will strengthen your capacity to evolve in the direction you intend.
